The Rise of Women In The Property Maintenance Industry

It’s likely you assume that your window cleaner, pressure washer, and gutter cleaner are all male technicians because, for many decades, property maintenance has been a male-dominated industry. However, as more and more women enter into the trade service industry and excel to the top of their field, this perception of it being a “man’s field” is slowly but surely changing.

It has been noted that the demand for cleaning technicians is extremely high lately. With more than half of all millennials outsourcing their cleaning duties, there has been a 25% rise in demand for domestic cleaners over the past five years! The shortage of tradesmen continues to get larger, too. With that in mind, it is necessary to find new ways to increase the number of employees in property maintenance fields. One of those ways is through the recruitment of women.

There are many benefits to hiring a female technician. Besides being just as skilled as their male counterparts, female workers typically put homeowners at ease. More specifically, female homeowners especially prefer dealing with women as they tend to provide more candid information and put less pressure on the homeowner to purchase.

There are also tons of benefits for women to enter the trade service industry, too. First and foremost, the career potential is truly unlimited. Owners of property maintenance firms often offer flexible schedules with limitless earning potential and high job security. Tradeswomen have also said that they love what they do because they have the opportunity to do a job that makes a difference for homeowners and makes their lives easier.

The first step in ensuring the rise of women in the property maintenance industry is to educate them of the opportunities this industry has and to slowly remove the label that property maintenance is a “man’s field”. Here at Aurum Window Cleaning, we are advocates for women in the trades and are continuously striving to illustrate how their skills and strengths can take them into a successful trade career.
